Root Canal Treatment, commonly called RCT is removal of infected soft tissue within the tooth and its replacement with an artificial inert material.
RCT is done when the tooth decay, if left untreated, reaches the pulp of the tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue present in canals of the tooth and consists of nerves and blood vessels.
This infection gives rise to dental pain. The infected part of the pulp is therefore removed and the canals are cleaned before being filled with a filling material.
It is a 30 minute procedure performed under local anaesthesia.
Contrary to the popular belief, with the advent of newer techniques and medications, RCT is painless and comfortable.
